taxation without representation

Theres been allot of media attention for the last few days surrounding the recent changes in regards to the Translink authority (local roads and transit authority). I have always had a problem with Translink. I believe the region needs a central transport agency, but If they have the power to tax (levee) the citizens of the GVRD they absolutely need to be elected. We need to be able to hold them accountable. People who disagree with my opinion say we already have the ability to hold them accountable. They are all mayors of the local municipalities, and can be turfed out of office every municipal election. I vote for someone to run my municipality, not for a single voice in a local transit authority. If my mayor is doing a kick ass job, making sure the city is running smoothly, and my taxes are used in a sensible manor, I am not going to kick him out of office no matter how much Translink may have their heads stuck up their asses.

Translink recently introduced a Parking stall tax on business in the GVRD. The calculated it buy the area of your business's land- actual area of the building. The company I work for has a very large rolling green space, with trees, and decorative flowerbeds. This green space was all accessed as parking stall space....why? Because in theory It could be used as parking. Its this kinda of mind set that makes me want to kick the local representative to the curb. My mayor although apparently a stalker of an ex-girlfriend, is actually doing a fairly decent job as mayor. What o what is a girl to do. (I know my first instinct to burn down Translinks office building Is wrong)

But wait, Its going to be even more unaccountable to the people, and or gas tax is going up....but at least the parking stall tax is going.
