Creepy Conversation

Had a disturbing conversation with a Co-Op student today. We were working in a the dry room listening to cknw. It was all about the shootings at Virgina Tech yesterday. The Co-op student said it was a shame, but there was really no way to stop it from happening. I asked if she didn't believe handgun controls would help any (I don't believe they would help, but was interested in her perspective). The answer I got creeped the hell out of me.

"Take away the guns, and scary people will just become more creative. If i wanted to kill a lot of people a gun is the last option id take. Id take a can of Sterno and a metal plate. place them in the ventilation system in the middle of the night in a dorm building, light it up and pour mercury on the dish. If your lucky you could probably get a couple of dorms done in a single night before you got caught. Take away the guns, and scary people will start getting creative, and that the last thing we all need."

OK, I'm paraphrasing a bit, but that was the gyst of the statement.

Creepy, especially since she is a happy, smiley, bubbly, sociable person.

She seems to have thought a lot about this. I have a vivid imagination, although I don't use it to think of ways of killing multiple people, but that method sounds like somethings that's been researched! Eeek!

Goes to show that even the happiest people have a "dark side". In all honesty though, I agree to an extent. The problem with the argument is that it doesn't take into consideration that most of the people out there who carry guns carry them because they are convenient. I think that stricter gun control would be helpful. Though it might not stop the violence completely, it would slow it down.
